Located near the northeast corner of the state, Blakely is a borough in Lackawanna County. It is named after naval war hero Johnston Blakely, captain of a warship called Wasp. A memorial in the shape of a large anchor from the aircraft carrier is displayed at Blakely Corners.

Blakely borough was created in 1867. Settlers began clearing timber and farming the land in 1795. Anthracite coal was mined in the area and dresses were made in factories. The region was also home of silk mills, ice cream manufacturers, blacksmiths, clothing shops, and two movie theatres.

Today, the area is thriving with many businesses and shops. Additional restaurants and activities are a short distance away, and people of all ages are sure to find activities to participate in. Valley View School District serves the borough.
