Clarks Summit was small until the Northern Electric Street Railway Co. allowing for residents to commute between Scranton and Clarks Summit. The area began to thrive and expand.
Today, the bustling area has activities for everyone. Hillside Park attracts residents year-round, and is especially popular in the warmer months. The park is a great place to go for hiking and fishing, and to contribute to the community garden. There is also a dog park featuring separate areas for both small and large dogs to enjoy the fresh air. Lakeside Concerts are held each Wednesday in the summer at the park.
Downtown Clarks Summit is quaint and beautifully decorated around the holidays. Streets are lined with specialty shops and larger stores are nearby as well. A new community center called The Gathering Place was set up in the first floor of the former firehouse, and it celebrates inclusive partnerships, creativity, education and the arts. The center holds and sponsors events, including carriage rides, storytelling, and face painting. Fun for the whole family is nearby at the Lahey Family Fun Park. Kids can enjoy batting cages, mini golf, go-karts and an arcade. Birchwood Fitness center has exercise equipment, as well as clay tennis courts for use.
