Dickson City, Pennsylvania
View properties and homes for sale in Dickson City, a borough within Lackawanna County and part of the Mid Valley School District.
Located just 4 miles north of Scranton, Dickson City was originally known as Priceburg when it was nothing more than a village. At this time, it was already the most progressive area. In 1863, German immigrants then founded the village of Priceville. This section grew rapidly in the years after 1880 and the population more than doubled. Dickson City was incorporated as a borough in June 1875 and was named after Thomas Dickson, founder of the Dickson Manufacturing Company.
Historically, the Dickson City area was dominated by coal mines and this fossil fuel was the biggest employer. Today, the borough is now the center of a thriving retail corridor along Business Route 6 and around the Viewmont Mall. New businesses and shopping centers are continually being added along Viewmont Drive and Commerce Boulevard, as well.
Dickson City offers plenty when it comes to shopping, dining, and entertainment, including PA Escape Rooms, Circle Drive-In Theatre, and numerous diverse retailers at the Viewmont Mall. Johnson College, Marywood University, The University of Scranton, and Penn State Scranton are just a few of the many colleges and universities close to Dickson City.
