Mountain Top is located in the western Pocono Mountains, nestled between the cities of Wilkes-Barre and Hazleton in Northeast Pennsylvania. The Mountain Top area includes Fairview, Rice, Slocum, Wright, Dorrance Townships and Nuangola Borough. Mountain Top public schools include the Crestwood School District. With easy access to major highways, Mountain Top also has an industrial park which contains 15-20 companies providing jobs for many of the area’s residents.
This quaint area encompasses a broad variety of lot sizes and many styles of residential and commercial properties including single family homes, townhouses, new construction, large manufacturing facilities and small specialty commercial buildings.
The area, which covers over 110 square miles, is host to many activities for all to enjoy. These include youth soccer, football and baseball leagues, dance studios, a local ice rink, karate lessons, and more.
The center of town has a variety of restaurants, banks and shopping stores—from the area’s famous pizza to popular salad and sushi restaurants, there’s something for everyone.
In 1798, Mountain Top’s first settler, Conrad Wickesier, carved paths into the mountain, bringing civilization to the mountains of the Wyoming Valley. James Wright built the first tavern and three saw mills to level and clear up the land for habitation.
The first school was built in 1840 and the boulevard was built in 1908. Prior to the boulevard, railway and mules were a popular means of transportation in the area.
Mountain Top’s suburban communities are only minutes from Wilkes-Barre with its numerous restaurants, retail shops, universities, parks, and theaters. In addition, New York City and Philadelphia are only a short 2-hour ride away.
