Wyoming is a charming town with a rich history. Officially founded 1885, the borough was made famous well before then. On July 3, 1778, during the Revolutionary War, a battle took place in and around present day Wyoming. The encounter occurred between American Patriots and Loyalists accompanied by Iroquois raiders. More than 300 Patriots lost their lives in the battle. A monument was built in 1833 to mark the gravesite of the victims of the Wyoming Massacre.
The Wyoming Monument, the Luzerne Presbyterial Institute, and the Swetland Homestead are all listed on the national Register of Historic Places.
