Lake Wallenpaupack is a large freshwater lake in Northeastern Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains region and is the third largest lake in the state. Historically, the land was named "Wallenpaupack" by the Lenape Indians, a term which means "The Stream of Swift and Slow Water." The lake itself was created in 1926 for hydroelectric power and to control flooding. Today, it is one of the region’s most popular recreation destination in the Poconos.

The Lake is located near Hawley and forms part of the boundary between Pike and Wayne counties. Other communities surrounding Lake Wallenpaupack include Greentown, Lake Ariel, and Lakeville. The Wallenpaupack Area School District encompasses several communities in Wayne and Pike counties and includes six schools: two elementary schools, a middle school, high school, primary school, and HeadStart.
